David est né en 2008 dans une famille de musiciens. Son père, Vladimir Sverdlov Ashkenazy, est pianiste et compositeur, sa mère, Lyda Chen, a étudié le droit et joue de l'alto.
David a découvert le piano et joué ses premières notes en compagnie de sa chère grand-mère, la professeure Elena Ashkenazy.

À l'âge de cinq ans et demi, il a commencé à prendre des cours avec le professeur Serguei Milstein, avec lequel il a étudié pendant neuf ans.
David s'est produit en public pour la première fois en 2016 au Progetto Argerich à Lugano et a joué des pièces à quatre mains avec son autre merveilleuse grand-mère, Martha Argerich.
Plusieurs fois lauréat du concours interne du Conservatoire de Genève, il a obtenu le premier prix avec distinction lors de la finale du Concours suisse de la jeunesse musicale 2019, dans les catégories piano solo et duo.
Il a remporté le premier prix avec félicitations au Concours international junior Karl Adler à Stuttgart en 2018 et 2019, ainsi que le deuxième prix au Concours international « Genève Musicale » en 2023.
David est invité au Japon en 2019 et se produit en solo à Beppu, Argerich Meeting Point. La même année, il se produit également à Hambourg, au Festival Leisz Saal, où il est régulièrement invité.
Invité du festival Coup de cœur à Chantilly en 2021, 2022 et 2023, ses performances à quatre mains et deux pianos sont diffusées en direct sur Mezzo TV.
En novembre 2022, David fait ses débuts avec un orchestre et joue le 1er Concerto de Beethoven dans la Grande Salle de l'Esplanade à Singapour.
L'année suivante, David Chen est invité en Chine et se produit en tant que soliste et dans un ensemble de musique de chambre aux théâtres nationaux de Guangzhou et de Nanjing.
David poursuit ses études au Conservatoire de musique de Genève avec le professeur Mladen Tcholitch, dans le cadre du programme Musimax.

Several times winner of the internal competition of the Geneva Conservatory, he received the first prize with distinction in the Final of the Swiss Musical Youth Competition 2019 edition, in the piano solo and duo categories.
He won First Prize with congratulations in the Karl Adler International Junior Competition in Stuttgart in the 2018 and 2019 editions and 2nd Prize in the “Genève Musicale” international competition in 2023.
David is invited to Japan in 2019 and performs solo at Beppu, Argerich Meeting Point. The same year he also performed in Hamburg, at the Leisz Saal Festival, where he was regularly invited.

David continues his studies at the Geneva Conservatory of Music with Professor Mladen Tcholitch, in the Musimax programme.
